There are a few ways campaign organizing currently has its mind set on that should be updated. 

"Call Time" - This is taken as gospel in many campaigns, national and local. But there is evidence that there are more efficient ways of getting to people. Text messages have a 99% open rate, compared to the 15%-20% answer rate for phones. And we have the technological capacity to send out texts to lists of people relatively easily. A worthwhile way to approach nightly call time would be to fire off a round of texts in the afternoon and then have call time focus on two groups: those that said yes, analyzed with NLP sentiment analysis, and those without phone numbers(or those that havent responded to the last 3 texts) so they don't fall through the cracks. Time is of the essence in campaigns. Preserve it for staff and volunteers.

"Mailing" - This is something that many savvy campaigns are already avoiding, not doing postcard or letter writing parties, not sending campaign info "lit" in the mail, etc. But there is a stubborn insistence on some mailers that has somehow stuck around. For example, committing to vote is sometimes done on postcards that voters fill out and then have mailed back to them by the campaign after a canvasser takes it back to the campaign staff. A better way to do this would be to have a text and email opt-in, that would be contacted by staff on the day that they committed to vote as a reminder of their commitment. A selfie with their door knocker would be a good addendum to this. Perhaps a mobile available web-app where a door knocked can be checked off and then have a selfie option to put in so the text and email that gets sent as a reminder, has a personal touch. This again would save time and money from mailers. And would likely yield better results and more opt-ins. People are hesitant to sign and fill out forms, not so much to just say yes to receiving a text in the future.
